If you are a Step Mom, chances are you are not going to get recognition for a lot of the things you do and that’s ok. Keep doing it anyway.
Oh I get it. I really really do. You want a successful family. You put your heart and soul into your role. From lunches to prom dresses, you do an over the top job. You sacrifice things so your family can have more. You often set aside your own emotions to know that it is for the greater good of the family. As Step Mothers we do this every day, but it would be nice to get a little recognition for it once in a while wouldn’t it.
Being a great Step Mom has nothing to do with being lavished with positive recognition. At graduation, when your child gives that speech, you may not have your name announced as Super Woman. However that does not mean that in their hearts they are not screaming it. Doing your best is about how much you love your spouse and children. You may never get the credit you feel you deserve, but that does not mean that you should do a lesser job. Everyone notices. They do appreciate you and what you do. You need to feel it in your heart rather than wait to hear it from their mouths.
My boys often share with me about fantastic things their Mother does for them. I encourage that. I want them to know that it is important for them to be proud of their Mom and what she does for them. I am not just teaching them to be proud of their Mother, I am teaching them to give accolades to everyone around them, to be a better human. I also am letting them know it is ok to not only love their Mother, but talk to me about her.
And just so you know…I recognize you. I love you all. I will shout it from the mountains – THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for being a FANTASTIC STEP MOM!
